Who we are.

Chalice Tax began with a simple idea: for most people, calculating and paying taxes is a chore, not a calling. For a fair fee, we take that chore off your hands so that you can do the things you are called to do in your lives and professions!

Established in 2017

Chalice Tax was founded by Christian Schmidt, an ordained minister. As a member of the clergy since 2013, Christian had struggled to find competent, professional tax help, and also wasn't certain he was doing his own tax return correctly. Frustrated at this situation, he decided to do something about it and began training as a tax preparer. He is registered with the state of Maryland, where he lives, and participates in the IRS' Annual Filing Season Program.

Our Goal

We want to take the shame, fear and anxiety out of taxes! None of our clients went into their professions because they wanted to pay or calculate their taxes, so we help them do those things so that they can focus on their work and lives. Our goal is to offer competent, professional, caring tax services, and to make sure our clients are set up for tax success.

Our Team

Christian Schmidt
Founder and Owner, Chalice Tax

Christian is Chalice Tax: he works with clients, prepares tax returns, consults with clients and does data entry and communications. His entry into the tax business was initially a bit of a career detour, as he sought training and experience in tax preparation after struggling to find competent help with his own clergy tax returns. He couldn't be happier with where he's ended up, and has found that working with tax clients provides a real opportunity to use the counseling and deep listening skills he learned in ministry.

Christian is an authorized tax preparer in his home state, Maryland, and participates in the Annual Filing Season Program with the IRS. Christian also still serves part-time in a local congregation, with a church that is good enough to give him leave during the busiest part of the tax season.
